Since 1999 Alain Depocas has been the president of the Centre for Research and Documentation at the Daniel Langlois Foundation in Montreal, which is committed to the preservation of media art. From 2005 to 2010 he managed the ambitious DOCAM research project (Documentation et Conservation du Patrimoine des Arts Mediatiques). In an extensive interdisciplinary alliance between Canadian museums, universities and research institutions detailed studies for the development of guidelines and procedures for the conservation and restoration of technology-based art were undertaken.

In the imai workshop, the international acclaimed expert Alain Depocas will introduce the scientifically-based results of the DOCAM research which were published at the final DOCAM conference in March 2010. Resources, instruments and application examples for the conservation of technology-based art will be presented including a  newly-structured documentation model, an English-French glossary, a technological timeline, case studies and a decision-making model.

The workshop is conceived as a further education offer for restorers, curators, scientists and trainees who are generally familiar with the special requirements in the area of conservation and restoration of media art.
