The exhibition Images against Darkness (Bilder gegen die Dunkelheit) will highlight a representative selection of video art works from the imai archive for the first time. Imai was founded six years ago in Düsseldorf to take on the extensive video art collection of the Cologne media art agency 235 Media. Since then the works have been stored in the archive and new works have been added. In co-operation with KIT - Kunst im Tunnel there will now be an opportunity in Düsseldorf to get a look at these impressive works contained in the archive.

An exhibition staged by imai – inter media art institute at NRW-Forum Düsseldorf,
11. September - 21. November 2010

The foundation imai – inter media art institute presents Projected Data Images. Testcuts (2010), an exhibition by Katharina Sieverding. She is foremost among Düsseldorf-based artists in deploying various production formats that incorporate processes of media transition and transfer. The award-winning artist has figured prominently among the city’s avant-garde over the past four decades, and enjoys international renown.

Video art from A (Auder) to Z (Zanni)

This year at the trade fair with the richest tradition for contemporary and modern art imai will present an extensive screening program with contributions from A (e.g. Michel Auder) to Z (e.g. Margot Zanni). On a large cinema screen in the Europasaal between halls 10 and 11 a number of video art classics await the visitor together with promising new works. The compilations based on themes provide an interesting insight into selected highlights from 35 years of video art. 

Salvaged treasures meet contemporary video art

An integral part of the special exhibition is a collection of video art treasures by the artists of the multi media collective of "Frigo" in Lyon, France. These were forgotten for 25 years and are now accessible again. Performance documentation is displayed from Paul McCarthy, Hermann Nitsch and Dieter Appelt. A selection of contemporary art works is also shown which contrasts with the historical treasures.
